Ball terminal

In a typographic character, a stroke finishing that is formed like a ball. Appears most over and over again in serif typefaces.

Baseline

A horizontal education representing where the bottoms of lettering without descenders appear to align. This baseline is frequently referred to in an imaginary sense. When extra baseline typeface is set, all letters generally appear to have the same baseline.

Bit-mapped font

A collection of symbols in a particular design typeface and 10 point size, in which each symbol is represented as a model of dots or little square or rectangular elements called pixels. Bit mapped font classically used for representing type on computer screen and in the output of low-resolution printers.

Bowl

The strokes that completely or incompletely surround an inner space in such characters as a, b, d, the higher part of g, and O, P, and R. generally curved or bent. (The lesser part of the g is normally called a loop.)
