Calligraphy which exactly means "nice-looking writing." In type design, characters said to be calligraphic look a lot like those shaped by the ordinary movement of the hand using a pen, brush, or other writing tool.
A straight (horizontal) instruction representing where the tops of capital letters become visible to align. This capital line is frequently referred to in an imaginary sense.
The big letters of the Latin alphabet (A, B, C, D and the like) which are based on traditional Roman stone-carved lettering. This function is also called uppercase letters, (majuscules).
