Calligraphy which exactly means "nice-looking writing." In type design, characters said to be calligraphic look a lot like those shaped by the ordinary movement of the hand using a pen, brush, or other writing tool.
A straight (horizontal) instruction representing where the tops of capital letters become visible to align. This capital line is frequently referred to in an imaginary sense.
